Patients and carers

Our webpages and our library services are mainly intended for staff and students working in the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) or the University of Oxford.

If you are a patient, carer, or other member of the public looking for help or information about a health condition, the NHS website provides a comprehensive health information service with a wide range of resources.

You can also find a range of leaflets on a wide number of health care topics at the OUH's patient information leaflets library.

If you have any practical questions about attending hospital as a visitor, inpatient or outpatient at the OUH, visit the Patient Guide. Patients and carers attending the Churchill Hospital for cancer treatment are very welcome at the Maggie's Centre. Maggie's also has a support website.

You can contact the OUH Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS).

If you are a carer, Carers Oxfordshire is a free service which offers information, advice and support to carers living in Oxfordshire.

Unfortunately, our staff are not able to provide information relating to specific individual’s conditions. If you wish to consult a specific textbook that you cannot access elsewhere or would like assistance with the NHS website, please contact one of our libraries during our staffed hours.

You can search our library catalogue (SOLO) to see what books we have on specific conditions. Using SOLO is simple. Open the website and use the search box to enter a title, author, and/or subject. Select 'Health Care Libraries – All' from the drop down menu to the right of the search box. Books which match your search words will appear in the list. To see which library holds your book, click on 'Find & Request'. This shows you which library and where to find it on the shelf.

If you are a member of OUH Trust staff looking for the latest evidence to support information for patients or to support your patient care, research or professional development, one of our outreach librarians would be very happy to help you.
