Wednesday: 10am – 7pm

Easter staffed hours

The Cairns Library will be unstaffed from Friday 29 March – Monday 1 April (inclusive).

Access

Automatic 24/7 access for:

  • OUH Trust staff with a valid Bodleian Health Care Libraries card
  • University of Oxford card holders with Bodleian Libraries access
  • Oxford Brookes Faculty of Health and Life Sciences staff and students with a valid Bodleian Health Care Libraries card

For other Bodleian Library card holders, access is generally during University of Oxford holidays during staffed hours only. Email hcl-renewals@bodleian.ox.ac.uk for more access information. 

About us

The Cairns Library at the John Radcliffe Hospital offers 24/7 access, IT and printing services, subject collections and workspaces to those listed within the Access section.

Directions

Follow signs to the Academic Centre, situated between the main entrance and the Women's Centre. Walk up one flight of stairs or take the lift and turn right. Follow the corridor. The Cairns Library is at the end before the corridor turns to the left.

Using this library

Features

For disabled readers

The library is on one level with step-free access. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet located near the library on the same floor. A portable hearing loop is available at the enquiries desk.

The library can provide the following assistive equipment:

  • 5 coloured acetate sheets
  • 2 hand-held magnifiers  
  • 2 daylight reading lamps

Please ask at the issue desk if you wish to use any of this equipment.  

The library also has 3 height adjustable desks and an ergonomic chair.

Spaces

  • The library has two main reading rooms.  The first contains shelving, cubicles and open plan seating and workstations. The second is a smaller library containing shelving and some desk space.
  • There is small breakout space near the main reception desk in the lobby area in front of the library entrance.
